Dhurandhar Movie: Why all this Hue and Cry? My Honest Take

Dhurandhar Movie: Why all this Hue and Cry? My Honest Take

Lately, there is so much "shor-sharaba" (noise) around the new movie Dhurandhar. On one side, people are loving it, but on the other side, social media is full of debates. I watched the movie recently, and honestly, while I liked the filmmaking, I feel the controversy is going in the wrong direction.

The Good Part: Screenplay and Music

First of all, let's talk about the movie itself. The narrative is very nicely stitched. They have taken real-life incidents and mixed them with a fiction story so smoothly that it keeps you on the edge of your seat. The background music (BGM) is just great—it really gives you that "goosebumps" feeling in the action scenes. It is a "semi-truth" story interleaved with fiction, and as a cinematic experience, it works very well.

The Political Angle: Is it a Modi Support Movie?

Now, coming to the "lafda" (trouble). A lot of people who are anti-BJP are saying this is a politically motivated film. To be very honest, to some extent, they are right. There are a few scenes where the movie evidently supports PM Modi and his style of functioning. If someone says it has a political tilt, I can understand that point. It is quite clear.

The Religious Angle: Where I Disagree

But here is where I simply cannot digest the criticism. I see many people from the Muslim community saying the movie is religiously motivated or "anti-Islam."

I searched for it, but I didn't find any religious material in the movie. Let’s look at the facts:

  1. The Hero: The main hero is a Sikh.
  2. The Target: The operation was against Pakistan, not against Indian Muslims.
  3. The Dialogues: There isn't even a single dialogue in the entire movie that attacks any religion.

Even when the hero is fighting, he says he is not against the common people of Pakistan. In fact, he mentions that the people he is killing would actually harm Pakistan as well.He loved and married a Muslim. So, where is the hatred?

Underworld and Real Life

People are complaining about the portrayal of characters like Atif Ahmed. But we must remember, these are underworld-linked people. Atif Ahmed himself has agreed in interviews that he has links with the ISI. If a movie shows a criminal as a criminal, how does it become a religious issue?

My Final Conclusion

The movie is predominantly about Pakistan trying to encash Indian sentiments, and India's response to it. Yes, it has a political flavor, and yes, it supports the current government's bold image. But calling it "anti-religion" is just making a mountain out of a molehill.

If you like a good action thriller with a mix of reality and fiction, go watch it for the screenplay and the BGM. Don't get lost in the "politics of religion" because, in this movie at least, that religion part doesn't even exist!
