Where is god? Why am I not Seeing ? Do I have to die and go to heaven (or) wait for judgement day ?

Image
We all have our own pictures of God, right? As kids, many of us imagined a kind, fatherly figure sitting on a throne in the clouds. In India, we think of Lord Shiva on the snowy peaks of Kailasha, or Lord Vishnu resting in the beautiful Vaikuntha. These are comforting images. In some religions, it is heaven. Father is in heaven and we need to do good in life and one day we die and go to heaven to see him.  But have you ever stopped to think?   God is omnipotent (all-powerful) and omnipresent (everywhere at once). If that’s true, how can God be stuck in one place, be it heaven, Kailasha, or Vaikuntha? If God is everywhere, can there be a place where He is not ? This is the concept great bhaktha prahalada story was hinting at, when he was asked by his father he says, he can find him everywhere. His father chooses pillar and ended up finding lord in the form of narasimha. So god is everywhere.  If God is Everywhere, Why Can't I See Him? This is the most common quest...

why do we offer flowers to god

Image
Offering a flower to God is more than just decoration. According to the famous prayer Mantra Pushpam, a flower is a powerful symbol that connects us to the universe linking the water here on earth to the moon and stars above. While we usually think of flowers as things to look at or smell, ancient wisdom says they are actually connected to Sound . Just as a flower silently invites the bee to come and buzz, offering a flower is a way to invite the vibration of the Divine into our hearts. Thanking God for Our Senses In the logic of the Upacharas , every item we offer corresponds to a sense organ and a subtle element ( Tanmatra ). The ritual is essentially a way of saying, "You gave me these senses to experience the world; I use them now to experience You." For example, Here is how some of the offering translates to gratitude for our faculties: Deepam (Lamp): We light the lamp to thank God for the element of Fire and the gift of Vision . It symbolizes the removal of darkness a...

Are stories in puranas real ?

Image
When it comes to puranas there are several questions that comes to our minds, especially the younger generation. Are they real history ? if yes, why some of those stories are not aligning to science and doesnt sound real. . For example: We learn in school that the Earth is a planet orbiting the Sun. But some Puranas describe the Earth as a devata, a lotus, with oceans of milk and curd. Why is there no alignment?  Even within the texts, there seems to be a fight. The Shiva Purana says Lord Shiva is the ultimate creator and Vishnu bows to him. The Vishnu Purana says Lord Vishnu is supreme and Shiva comes from him. The Devi Bhagavatam says Shakti is the mother of both! So, are they lying? Is it fake history? Or are we reading them wrong? To answer this, we need to understand a beautiful concept from our ancient wisdom called Ardhavaadam .  Before even going towards ardhavaadam lets understand purpose of purana. What is a Purana and its purpose? Think of the Vedas as the stric...

Why We Need "Blind" Belief: The Hidden Logic Behind Our Traditions

Image
I want to talk about something we all argue about at the tea shop. One side says, "All these old rituals and beliefs are just superstition! We are modern people, we need science!" The other side says, "No, this is our culture, you must follow." But actually, both sides are missing the main point. What if I tell you that belief is actually a software ? Our ancestors created "Belief Operating system" to make society work. The Problem: Rationale knowledge is weak without enforcement Imagine you are a king 2,000 years ago. You want your people to wash their hands so they don't get sick. If you explain, "Listen, there are invisible bacteria that will kill you," nobody will understand. Microscope was not invented, na? Or take a modern example. We all know we should throw waste in the dustbin. But imagine you are walking on a lonely road at night with an empty chips packet. You look around—no police, no CCTV, nobody watching. Even though you are ed...
